In November 2000, the Board of Regents approved the Universityâs proposal to name the facility in recognition of Jerry and Marjorie Newman of Columbus, Georgia. Jerry Newman is a GSW graduate and Foundation trustee, whose generous donation funded the renovation. GSW Foundation Alumni Affairs University Relations Close × Chick-fil-A and Boarâs Head Deli Parking Parking in this lot is available only for restaurant patrons without a GSW parking decal (faculty, staff or student). Otherwise, parking decals are required for all visitors, students, faculty and staff. Decals can be obtained from the campus safety office during regular office hours. Visitors may park in "X" or "B" zone, or in designated visitor parking areas. Parking zones are enforced only on school days and only between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm with the exception of no parking zones (yellow curbs), handicapped parking zones, and parking in the area of the Health Center. Parking areas are subject to change. Please obey all posted signs and rules. Parking Policies Public Safety Close × Former President's Home An attractive new residence for the president of Georgia Southwestern was completed in 1966 at a cost of $62,820. It is currently occupied by the Southwest Georgia Court Appointed Special Advocates. Close × Soccer Fields Located off Felder Street and across from the GSW softball field, this facility is utilized by the GSW Intercollegiate athletic teams only. Men's Soccer Women's Soccer Close × Softball Field Located off Felder Street, this facility is utilized by the GSW Intercollegiate athletic teams only. Softball Close × Tennis Courts There are lighted courts that are conveniently located on campus next to the Deriso Pool and Southwestern Pines. The GSW Tennis Teams have first priority when using the courts; otherwise the courts are open to students and community members year round. For safety purposes, lights will not be available during GSW baseball night games. Men's Tennis Women's Tennis Close × Baseball Field The field is located off of Simmons Street next to the GSW tennis courts and is utilized by the GSW Intercollegiate athletic teams only. Baseball Close × Deriso Swimming Pool This Olympic-sized covered pool was completed in 1991. It is named in honor of Doris B. Deriso, a major contributor for the facility. Deriso Swimming Pool Close × Westbrook Bell Tower The Daniel Webster Westbrook Memorial Bell Tower is located on the lawn in front of Morgan Hall. It was a gift to the university by lifelong educator and GSW alumna Martha Westbrook in honor of her father, Daniel Webster Westbrook. Close × Southwestern Pines At 81,000 square feet, this apartment-style residence hall has over 230 beds. It is used for upperclassmen, and was completed in April 2007. Southwestern Pines Residence Halls Close × Storm Dome/Athletic Center Highlights of the two-story structure include a convocation hall/sports arena with seating for 2,000; updated athletic facilities, including locker areas, training areas and a fitness center; recreational facilities, including racquetball courts and a climbing wall; new and improved Health and Human Performance facilities, including classrooms, conference areas, and fitness areas. Campus Recreation Fitness Center Close × Student Success Center The Student Success Center is home to the division of Student Affairs, the Athletic Department, the Office of Continuing Education, and several academic classrooms. During the summer of 2014 the Canes Den was renovated and expanded to make room for a new Chick-fil-A and Boarâs Head Deli combination restaurant. Division of Student Affairs Campus Recreation Dining Services Close × Collum Hall Collum Hall was completed in 1952 with the total cost of the building and furnishings listed at $166,800. Collum Hall is now the home of the South Georgia College Entry Program, along with additional GSW classroom space. Student Support Services Close × Crawford Wheatley Hall Crawford Wheatley Hall, named for the Honorable Crawford Wheatley who became treasurer of the institutionâs Board of Trustees, was constructed during the years of 1911 and 1912 at a cost of $17,500. It is now the home for the growing School of Computing & Mathematics. Department of Computer Science Department of Mathematics Close × Wheatley Administration Building Academic Hall was built in 1907 on the Third District A&M campus at a cost of approximately $28,000. The current building was completed in 1918 at a cost of $75,000. It is named in honor of Charles Huntington Wheatley (son of Crawford Wheatley) who died in 1991, bequeathing 55 percent of his $20 million-plus estate to the university. Admissions Academic Affairs Institutional Research Office of the President Close × Florrie Chappell Gymnasium The main floor served as a combined auditorium and basketball court with a swimming pool facility in the basement. It was named in honor of Florrie Allen Chappell, mother of Allen Chappell. It is not currently in use and is in need of historic renovation. Close × Science Building Completed in 1965 at a cost of $300,000, this building provided science concentration within a main building. Enrollment and program growth soon rendered this structure inadequate, paving the way for a much larger addition, Roney Building, in 1971. Department of Biology Department of Chemistry Department of Geology & Physics Close × Joseph C. Roney Building This 30,000 square-foot addition to the Science Building was completed in 1971 at a cost of $900,000. At the time of its construction, it was described as âone of the best designed and equipped science facilities in the state.â It was named in honor of Joseph C. Roney whose family made possible the J.C. Roney Family Student Assistance Fund. Department of Biology Department of Chemistry Department of Geology & Physics Close × Jackson Hall When Georgia Southwestern became a four-year college, new science buildings were constructed, freeing classroom space in Jackson Hall for the music program. On Oct. 12, 2002, the university held a formal ceremony kicking off a $2.7 million renovation of Jackson Hall. That renovation was completed in March 2004. Department of Music Concert Recitals/Special Events Close × Academic Center for Excellence In 1962, this building was completed at a cost of $350,000 to serve as a library/classroom building. The library was relocated in 1971 to the James Earl Carter Library facility. Currently, the building houses the Academic Resource Center, Asian Studies, and the GSW TV facilities. Academic Resource Center First Year Advocate Tutoring Services GSW TV Writing Center English Language Institute Career Services Close × Mary Lou Jordan Hall Originally intended as a womenâs residence hall, this facility was completed in 1967 at a cost of $421,000. It is named in honor of Mary Lou Jordan, who taught English primarily during her 19-year tenure (1926-1945) at Americus Normal College and Georgia Southwestern. Currently Jordan Hall serves office space for contract custodial staff. Close × Sanford Hall Sanford Hall served as a residence facility until 1970 when it was converted to administrative and service functions. It was completely renovated in 1999 at a cost of $1 million. Currently housed in this facility is the Office of Financial Aid, Human Resources, the Office of Disability Services & Testing and the Registrar's Office.
